More Information

The exhibition showcases Franck Evennou's latest creations, hand-crafted, traditional bronze pieces designed exclusively for Galerie Mathivet. Franck Evennou has been creating furniture since 1989. He has been exhibited several times in France, the United States and China, and has received private commissions from Dior and leading collectors . But he also carries out public commissions. The Mobilier National selected him for several designs, and the French Embassy in Lebanon commissioned him to create the spectacular entrance door to the Pins residence in Beirut. He created a light sculpture called ‘forêt de bronze’ for the Musée de la Chasse in Paris, as well as liturgical furniture for Noyon Cathedral. Through this exhibition, Galerie Mathivet aims to show all the poetry that emanates from the artist's work, a dreamlike world where nature predominates. What appealed to these lovers of beauty was also the quality of workmanship in Franck Evennou's pieces, as found in the art deco collections of Ruhlmann and Brandt. The shapes may seem simple, but their creations are not. The artist pays particular attention to the creation of his work and to the work of the craftsmen around him. To make us forget the function of the creation, all the technical aspects are rendered invisible so that we can access the feeling and perception of a sculpture rather than a light fixture, for example. From the preparatory drawing to the finished work, Franck Evennou follows every stage of production. Each bronze piece is modelled in plaster on a welded steel structure made from templates. The whole piece is then sculpted in detail, and the foundryman moulds and casts the bronze elements, piece by piece. The pieces are trimmed and welded, and the finished sculpture is stripped and given a hot patina, as illustrated by the Beam series of tables. A key figure in the world of design over the last 30 years, and despite his success, Franck Evennou has retained a kindness and simplicity that can only be the prerogative of the greatest.
